ABOUT MARY JANE NORDAHL

Mary Jane Nordahl is a writer and poet. She holds a BA in Creative Writing and Comparative & World Literature from San Francisco State University. She has experience leading creative writing and reading groups, proofreading, editing, and is an audio reader.

Mary Jane grew up in California. She has also called Malmö, Sweden her home, where her family has spent many summers and holidays visiting family and friends. In 2025, she moved with her family from the San Francisco Bay Area to Malmö. Excited to connect with fellow writers in Malmö, she searched for an English-language creative writing community, but found limited opportunities to join workshops and meet other writers.

CWE Workshops was founded for English-language writers in Malmö, Sweden and throughout Europe who want to develop their craft in a supportive environment. Mary Jane believes that every writer benefits from encouragement, constructive feedback, and a community that shares a passion for storytelling.

We begin our creative writing journey by introducing craft elements such as plot, character, story structure, point-of-view (POV), and dialogue. Understanding these craft elements will help guide our storytelling. We will also do writing exercises, read short fiction, nonfiction, and poetry to further explore how these craft elements are employed. In addition to our reading and writing exercises, each writer will be given the opportunity to have up to five written pages of their work critiqued by their workshop cohort.
This workshop is in English. Participants should be able to write and discuss in the English language. (Workshop textbook Steering the Craft by Ursula K. Le Guin is not included in the workshop fee)

Workshop duration: 4 weeks, 2 hour sessions
When: Sundays, 6 September - 27 September/ 17:30-19:30
Where: Kunst, Davidshallsgatan 13, 211 45 Malmö and via Zoom

We will meet once a week for 4 weeks. Our first workshop will be at Kunst, on Davidshallsgatan 13, 211 45 Malmö, and the rest of our workshops will be held online via Zoom. Complementary coffee (with free refills) and freshly baked pastry will be provided at our first meeting!

For writers who wish to join the workshop but are not in the Malmö area or will not be able to attend our first in-person meeting, you are also welcome to sign-up! An outline of our first meet-up and an introduction to your workshop cohort will be emailed to you after the first workshop has occurred. We can get to know you in our next meeting on Zoom.
